fashions and designsTHAT RED HEAD GAL

Can you name this woman?
“She drew effortlessly – with fashions and designs for Parisian plays, London films and American magazines flowing smoothly off the tips of her elegant quill pens in her lavender boudoir.”

Her name was Gordon Conway… and you’re not alone in not remembering one of the most vivid Moderne designers of half a century ago. She retired at the height of her career 45 years ago and died virtually unnoticed in 1956.

Starting in May, though, she’s going to come to life again as one of the most exciting figures on the American art scene. That’s when “That Red Head Gal”: Fashion and Designs of Gordon Conway, 1916-1936 will open at The Octagon in Washington.
