BUFFALO BILL AND THE WILD WEST

A letter from Buffalo Bill to his cousin Lydia in 1894 stated “I love children. Bring them all.” He was referring of course to the upcoming Wild West show at Ambrose Park, Brooklyn. Buffalo Bill was never less than a hero to children, perhaps because he understood their dreams. After all, the master showman was fulfilling his own childhood dream. As a youngster he reportedly told his sisters, “I’ll run a show when I get to be a man.” Over the objections of his mother, who was told by a fortune teller that young Cody was destined to become president, he answered, “I don’t propose to be president, but I do mean to have a show.”
His shows were attended by hundreds of thousands of children throughout the years. Children of all ages will once again be able to enjoy the Wild West show during the run of Buffalo Bill and the Wild West at The Brooklyn Museum from November 21, 1981 – January 17, 1982
